    any idea how to improve these benchmarks

    trying to compile it locally (it's a windowsPC running XP SP2 with 320MB RAM)

    All the PII's I had were overclocked 10-15%. You could try if your mainboard allow it (If I remember well, it was a bit tricky with all the jumpers to move).

    I guess overclocking is a bit harsch for this one. It's a Compaq not sure if they allow overclocking. Also to be honest, never did that before

    You're running XP on a P2? Big mistake

    The latest I would install on that would be 2000 Pro.

    I know, my goal was to install a linux-version on it. Was running smoothly until girlfriend requested a pc at home to do some school stuff and she won't work with linux or win2000. It had to be XP because that was the OS they used at school.

    Depending on what exactly she needs to do on the computer, since everything always changes place in Windows I can understand she prefers to use the same OS everywhere.

    Only the menu changes + you can put all the programs you need on your desktop or quick start menu.

    Win XP on a P2 is asking too much, even 2000 on a p2 is on the edge. Intall on OS only cause thats the one you're used to is not a good reason for me.
