Just for information: Intel Q9550 vs. AMD Phenom 9600 in ABC. Both Linux. Intel overclocked to 3.66GHz. AMD to ?

Castor and Pollux's career will be limited to 1 year. Main reason is that I am not too fond of my current case, the Mountain Mods Duality. It's too bulky to figure in my living room, and yet the internal space is too limited for what it is supposed to do: fit 2 motherboards comfortably. So... new case. But I won't be buying 2 cases. Where I had originally planned to go for an i7, I will postpone that. I will keep my 1 Q9550. I am going to bet on another horse. I will join the Cuda hype. Next month nVidia releases its 55nm GTX 2xx gpu's. I will go for a 260. In GPUGrid it is worth 10K/day. Seti and Einstein are also going for Cuda, and so is Lattice it seems.

I just read the title of this post, and I was amazed
Where did you get the name Pollux from ?A week or 2 ago, I was looking for a new nickname, and found Pollux. But since this one was taken everywhere I altered it a bit
So Pollux became Phalox!
So this was completely offtopic, and I'm going back to my books.. study in the Christmas holidays ftw!![]()
Hear the Scream of the Butterfly.
Pollux question well answered in my place by jayBee666 and Robin.
Of that twin, Pollux was the immortal one and Castor the mortal. My original intention was to have one machine running 24/7 (Pollux) and another part time (Castor). Deep, tutta55, very deep.![]()

What about selling everything: Q9550, MM case, ... & go for the i7 option in a slick case like a lian-li for instance.
Would be a perfect boinc setup combined with a nice GTX2xx.
Also a nice wc set to cool down this creditinferno.
I see you already have some buyers for the MM case so![]()
It's a question of budget. A complete new system would set me back at least 1000 Euro. Therefore I will now only replace case and graca. I will wait a little while for a complete system overhaul. The choice of socket 1366 mobo's is now limited to X58 and ... X58.My OC experience with Express chipsets (X975 and X38 ) is not so positive. The cheaper i965 and P35 seemed to do at least as well. P55 is coming. The choice of CPU coolers for 1366 is even more limited. And finally, it might be a good idea to wait for a second wave of i7, new steppings and maybe lower power consumption (and heat production)
