    Default MilkyWay@home

    Hi,

In my search for some fancy stuff to crunch I came across MilkyWay. It seems that BoincSenergy is going to make this a PoTM. Is this project stable enough to let it crunch alone? On the forums I noticed that they are experiencing some troubles with version 1.21 and win2k.

I have run it in the early stages of the project. No problems back then. But as for each project in test phase, probably best not to let it run alone on a machine that you can't reach for many days.

Indeed it used to run quite stable but they have run into some issues on W2K.

These should be solved in the mean time but I haven't crunched this lately.

If you run it, let us know if it is stable or not

I have run some WU's till last month on 64-bit Vista no problems noticed.
But short after that there were no Wu's available anymore.
So I guess they have upgraded their application.

I'll try some after the Leiden WU's.

They have changed the app. to version 1.22 and it works fine under w2k. The only downside is you only receive 20 WU's a time and only 4cred/WU.

I don't complain about the credits since My PIV claims 1.17 credits and get 4.06/unit granted with Boinc 5.4.11

They use fixed credit for each WU, so the boinc client doens't make a change.
Last week they have changed it from 2.17 cr/WU to 4.06 cr/WU
    (My client claimes 3.25 credits)

@ptagi : Can you get only 20 WU's a day , or only 20 unfinished WU's at the time. This protection is also there in POEM there you can get only 20 unfinished WU's , but far more WU's on one day.

I suppose this is 20/core then since I have a lot more unfinished POEM units in my queues

You can have 500 units/core a day but only 20 units in Cache.
Great project for Older and Low-end CPU's since it takes less than 10' too crunch an unit. (PIV, Celeron D, etc.)

    Warm (CPU) regards
