    I keep using Crunch3hr's 6,1 version unless another boinc version has significant advantages
    Perhaps a bit strange that I ask, but what is "Crunch3hr's 6,1 version" ?

    crunch3r is someone who likes to optimize Boinc programs, for specific platforms or in general. 6.1.0 is a Boinc version that gives better benchmark numbers than the official Boinc.

    Can I install it over the official 6.2 version ? Or will I need to uninstall the 6.2 version ? Is everyone in boinc.be using cruncher's versions ?

    Hmmm, is it really highly tweaked and optimised benchmark results? I thought it was not the case. I merely like the program's ability to set affinity for each thread to a specific core and the automtic reporting of results after one minute on windows.

    No, it's no longer so extreme as his previous Boinc clients. Still, at least a 20% increase in BM's is to be expected with 6.1.0.

    So, how do I best install this over a 6.2 version ?

    Hmm. Might be not so easy. At least if you don't want to lose any work in progress. Problem with 6.2.X is that it uses separate directories for the program and data. My suggestion would be to first uninstall 6.2.X. Then copy the content of the data directory (probably C:\ProgramData\BOINC) to the program directory (probably C:\Program Files\BOINC). And finally install 6.1.0 to the existing program directory.

    You can find crunch3r 6.1.0 here: http://calbe.dw70.de/boinc_red.html

    Ok, I just finished my last wu on one of my pc's and completely removed the 6.2 version, I don't need to keep any work. I downloaded the 6.1 version from cruncher, unpacked the zip file. How do I proceed to install it ?

    /edit:

    I reinstalled the official 5.10.45 version, then unpacked the zipfile and copied all documents into the C:\Program Files\BOINC map. The program works fine, I can read this in the messages:

    15/08/2008 18:46:25||BOINC 6.1.0.32 v5-32 bit Windows Edition by Crunch3r
    15/08/2008 18:46:25||Platform: windows_intelx86
    15/08/2008 18:46:25||enabled features:
    15/08/2008 18:46:25||-cpu_affinity
    15/08/2008 18:46:25||-delayed return_results_immediately (1 min)

    So I guess I installed it succesfully ?

    I am currently still using boinc version 5.10 with the 6.1 crunch3er application on my windows XP SP2, AMD 64 bit. Is this still usefull ? I did not find any updates for crunch3er's 6.1 version. I noticed that boinc is now at the 6.6.20 version, should I update or keep my current configuration ?
