    Red face GPUGrid

I got my new year's present to myself today: a Gainward GTX 260 LE. The first GPUGrid wuwu is underway right now. We can expect a little boost in this project.

That's quite a welcome gift in these cold days. Most probably steamy enough to get rid of your central heating.

The heat produced seems to be OK. My GPU cooler only runs at 40%, so it appears that running GPUGrid does not stress the card very much. The air coming from it is not really warm either. The only one who's putting out some steam is my PSU. I used GPU-Z to monitor the card. It appears (I might be way off in my reasoning) that the card on average pulls 32-42 Amps at 1.06V. Which would be a consumption of a mere 35-45W.

Meanwhile my first WU completed and gave me 2400 credits for 9-10 hours wall time.

    2400 credits, not bad

Do you still lose a core for co-processing with the GPU? I read that running GPUGRID in linux is the best option since it only uses about 3 - 5% of a single core.

ps: wouldn't thrust gpu-z about the wattage, buy a kill-a-watt because 45watt full load from a GTX260 is highly unlikely. Is it the 55nm version?

I find that the management of the GPU process by BOINC is not yet what it should be. If the GPU work unit runs alone, then it uses like 17% CPU time. If it runs together with normal CPU based work units, its CPU usage drops to like 2-3%, but the work unit progress also slows down considerably. At least that is my impression after 1 day. I might be wrong. Even if it did use 1 complete core, that would mean the credit loss of 1 core, but a credit gain of 6-7000/day with the GPU project. Still not bad

ps: No, it's still a 65nm gtx260. 55nm were still very scarce when I looked. The only one I found was from EVGA, and someone advised me not to buy that brand.

Think i'm going to follow the same path. GTX260 is good boinc for the buck.
I'm hoping for some price drops, GTX 285 & 295 are inbound.

As my 8800 GTs are not compatible with GPUgrid, I'm running some SETI Cuda's.
On my Quad core I have 5 units running but on my dual quad only 8. CPU usage is about 20%.

Do these Seti Cuda's give credits already?
